WBB: Tournament watch

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, March Madness is nearly upon us. With the success of the South Carolina women's team in the 2011-12 season, the Gamecocks are in a good position for the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. How good is their position? GamecockAnthem.com takes a look.

With just five games remaining in the 2011-12 regular season, it is time to begin looking towards March and the 2012 SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament. At 18-5 (7-3 SEC) and an RPI rating of 31 according to the NCAA, the South Carolina women's basketball team is looking good for making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the Dawn Staley era.

According to ESPN women's basketball analyst Charlie Crème, the Gamecocks are the 5th seed in the Fresno bracket, playing their first and second round games in Little Rock, Arkansas. Carolina is slated to match up with the 12th seed UTEP and the winner would face the winner of Green Bay (4th seed) and Idaho State (13th seed).

Carolina could better their position with a run in the SEC Tournament. Currently the Gamecocks are third in the SEC and, more importantly, one of four teams that would get a first round bye if the SEC Tournament started today.
