Gamecocks land JUCO DE

South Carolina filled a big need Friday afternoon when former West Brunswick (Shallotte, N.C.) standout DE Alfy Hill gave his commitment to the Gamecocks. Hill, who is currently at Los Angeles Valley Junior College, will have two years to play at South Carolina and would be expected to come in right away and contribute.

Alfy Hill confirmed his commitment to Gamecock Anthem via text message this afternoon.

South Carolina defensive line coach Brad Lawing was first to offer the 6-foot-5, 280-pounder out of high school, but his stock exploded and he eventually signed with Alabama.

Hill enrolled at Alabama that summer but was eventually ruled ineligible by the NCAA because of an online course he took at West Brunswick.

Hill enrolled at East Carolina but reportedly wasn't going to be able to play right away there, so he went to Itawamba Junior College in Mississippi. He finally landed at Los Angeles Valley Community College where he is now.

Hill should be able to compete immediately at defensive end in 2013 at South Carolina, and would likely battle then-senior Chaz Sutton and then-true sophomore or redshirt freshman Darius English for playing time.

Hill told Gamecock Anthem via text that he would call later for a full interview.
