Defensive Lineman Talks Camp Talk

His size and speed is a deadly combo. He comes off the ball well and gives a total effort for four solid quarters. He plans to focus solely on the defensive side of the ball this season. He speaks about his playing style and what he does and doesn't do well ...

Matt Raysor of Bamberg-Ehrhardt committed to South Carolina back in April. Did he attend the Gamecock football camp this past weekend?

"Yes sir, I went to the Carolina camp. I liked it. I did real well at the camp. I worked with coach Lounsberry's group. I like coach Lounsberry a lot. The way coach Lounsberry talked, he said I caught their attention better than I did during the season. He's the kind of coach that will not jump in your face; instead he will take you to the side and work with you. I like the way the coaches work with the players," Raysor said.

Did the camp solidify his commitment to the Gamecocks?

"Yes Sir, pretty much. I don't think I am going to go anywhere else."

What made Raysor decide on the Gamecocks from the beginning?

"I grew up a USC fan. I wanted to stay instate. I like the football atmosphere. I get to play for a legend like coach Holtz."

Raysor has been getting after it in the weight room lately. He went to the Auburn Nike camp on May 18th and weighed in at 273-pounds. He weighed in for the South Carolina camp at a stout 287-pounds. Raysor is currently benching 295-pounds and squats 495-pounds. He was timed at the South Carolina camp in the forty-yard dash at 5.0 seconds. His fastest time to date (electronically) is 4.62 seconds.

Raysor's size and speed is a very deadly combo. He comes off the ball well and gives a total effort for all four quarters. He plans to focus solely on the defensive side of the ball this season. Raysor spoke about his playing style and what he does and doesn't do well.

"I'm best at going after the ball. I'm not a big time pass rusher. I'm more of a run stopper. I'm good at making tackles from the backside," Raysor said.

Raysor will not attend any other camps this summer.
