Thaddeus Hall is a name that started to blow up late, so it's a good thing the new coach at South Carolina put in work with him before landing in Columbia, S.C.
The 6-foot-5 wing from Jefferson High (N.Y.) committed to Frank Martin on Thursday.
"I just committed," Hall said. "I felt very with the comfortable with the coaching staff. At K-State, they wanted me, but he knew he was going to leave, so, he backed off. But once he took the job at South Carolina, he was all over it.
"It feels great. It's a great conference, and I just want to show everyone that I can play with the best of them."
According to the senior, he had offers from Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, Providence, St. John's, Texas A&M and some others.
"Frank Martin's energy had rubbed off of me, and it felt good," he said. "I did my research and everything he said was the truth."
"He likes Frank Martin," added Lawrence Pollard, Hall's high school. "He likes the conference, and he's an Under Armour kid. Frank martin told him that he needed someone that could go to Kentucky and beat Kentucky with and protect their house. Thaddeus thought he was the man for the job."
Hall has a little work left to do in the class room, as he still needs to take the SATs
"He has some grade situations, and he hasn't taken the SAT, yet," Pollard said, "but once he does that, we'll be up and running."
Hall knows what he has to do in the classroom, and he will take the SATs on May 5.
"I'll be OK, I just have to finish out strong," he said.
"Once he gets on campus and has a stable situation, he'll be alright," Pollard said. "I think he can be unstoppable. I think Thaddeus can go in and compete for four years."
Making the jump from New York is a big one, even though he's yet to visit officially — which he's not quite sure when that will happen yet — but he does have ties to the Palmetto state.
"I have family in Charleston," he said. "They are going to be excited."
As far as what Hall brings to a team, this is Pollard's assessment: He's about a 6-5 wing that's athletic. He plays both ends of the court, plays hard, has a good motor and he's a great kid. He's had a lot of obstacles to overcome, but he's done it.
As far as Hall's take on the situation…. "I'm ready to be a gamecock."
