Xavier Carter is arguably the fastest player in the country. In April of this year (2003), Carter caught the attention of the track world when he became the first athlete to win the 100-, 200- and 400-meter sprints at the prestigious Arcadia (Calif.) track meet, which is over three decades old. Within an incredible two-hour span, Carter set a meet record with a 10.38 in the 100, then scorched the track with a 20.85 in the 200 (in a drizzle and 1.0 mph headwind, no less) and a 46.72 in the 400.*
He has the look of a tall, possession receiver with strong hands and a knowledge of how to use his body in traffic. He catches the ball with his hands instead of his body; he looks the ball in well, and his size (6-3, 195) gives him an advantage over every defensive player he faces. He is an excellent receiver that just happens to be the fastest player in the country.
One of the ways to judge the heart of a football player is how well he plays on special teams. Xavier Carter is a madman on kick coverage. He is the first one down the field, and he knows how to deliver a hit. He is also a standout returner. The one clip of him returning a kick is on here to see his speed and vision.
Gamecock Coach Paul Lounsberry is recruiting Xavier Carter and visited with the X-Man during the May evaluation period.
