He's Been Working-Out With The Team

Blake Mitchell has been working out with his fellow Gamecocks, Meat and Caddy, this summer. Although home for the holidays at the moment, he will be returning shortly and this time for good. So where does he see himself fitting in this fall and what does he think of Summers and Newton? We asked him ...

Blake Mitchell of LaGrange (GA) was one of the more highly touted quarterbacks in the country during his senior season. During his career he threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Blake had a 39-10 record as a starter for LaGrange. He was named to the All-State team during his junior and senior seasons. He was also invited to attend the Elite 11 quarterbacks camp. Blake had just returned home from workouts at the University of South Carolina. He gave GamecockInsider.com a quick update about his experience.

"When I came in on June the second, I weighed 186-pounds, but now I weigh 196. I've been working out everyday. Just pretty much getting into the groove of things. I've enjoyed it a lot. Everything is close from what I've seen. I've met a lot of nice people."

Blake has been participating in off-season workouts with the highly touted Demetris Summers and Syvelle Newton. Here is what Blake had to say about his fellow signees.

"I like Demetris. He seems to be a pretty good guy and a good athlete. Syvelle has been working out with us. He seems like a great athlete and has a strong arm."

Blake spoke about his fellow Gamecock quarterbacks and what his plans for playing time will be.

"I think they are all pretty good, but I think I'll be right there in the mix though. I guess I'll have to see what happens once two a day's start and I get to throw against the defense. The main thing though is just adjusting to the speed of the game."

Blake has received numerous comparisons during his career, but when we spoke about Blake being compared to NFL great Joe Montana this is what he had to say…

"I hope I can live up to it. That was a big compliment."

Blake sent this message to all of the Gamecock Nation.

"When I get my chance, I will perform."

We know you will Blake.
