Gamecocks Receive Huge Commitment

South Carolina coaches continue to dominate in the state of SC with this latest big time commitment, and has the exclusive ...

Jamon Meredith, the prized OL/DL prospect out of Hillcrest/Simpsonville committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks Sunday.

Meredith plans to major in Engineering at South Carolina. He currently carries a 3.8 grade point average and has already scored an outstanding 1150 on the SAT. Meredith played offensive tackle at Southside in Greenville last year - he will play both defensive end and tight end for the Rams now that he has transferred to Simpsonville. He bench presses 355-pounds, squat 460-pounds, and has a 27-inch vertical jump.

Meredith had spoken with, a division of, after his one day camp at Williams-Brice earlier last month. He admitted that he had received an offer from Coach DeGulielmo.

At the time Meredith said, "I told him 'thank you,' but I did not accept ... yet." And he went on to say that, "USC had a slight lead (after camp) ... I like their location and town ... I plan to make a decision after my official visits. (On Coach DeGuglielmo) He's just really cool, he can teach you a lot and also keep a friendly relationship at the same time."

Clemson had been Meredith's long time leader since Winter, but the Gamecocks and Coach DeGuglielmo made a big impression ... "thanks to the great football camps they run and the top-notch program they are building," according to Meredith.

So, today he just couldn't wait any longer. The time had come for him to make his decision and he did. With two official offers, South Carolina and Clemson, Meredith chose the Gamecocks and the SEC.

"Yes sir," he told us, "I called Coach Guge earlier today (and committed)"

This is the seventh known commitment for the Gamecocks.

Meredith was very busy at his summer job this evening. We hope to catch up to him later for an indepth story exclusively for our Insider premium subscribers.
