Jonathan Byrd of St. Helena (LA) is being touted as the top free safety prospects in Louisiana for the 2003 season. He is definitely high on many recruiting boards as well. Byrd is now sporting offers from LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Arkansas, Nebraska, Southeast Louisiana, and Grambling.
College recruiters are starting to pick up their interest in Byrd. LSU is recruiting him the hardest at this time. Byrd is a big playmaker on offense as well as defense. So which position does he want to play in college?
"I like defense a lot. I am really good in (pass) coverage. I really like to intercept the ball. I've been working out hard building up my legs so I can hit harder."
Byrd plans to take the ACT in the very near future and will make a decision shortly afterward. Do the Gamecocks still have the lead for his services?
"Well, I'm starting to look around. I'm down to Miami, South Carolina, and Arkansas."
What type of criteria will the lucky college have to meet?
"I want to go a college that has a big campus, good environment, and a big stadium. I want to move away. I'm ready to get out of Louisiana."
As always TheInsiders.com will keep you updated on Jonathan Byrd's status all the way until Signing Day.
