Statement game for Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney will look to make a statement in this weekend's matchup against Missouri. Clowney, coming off a big performance against UAB, could firmly plant himself as one of the best playersin the nation in this nationally televised matchup on CBS.

Every superstar in the SEC needs a statement game, look for Saturday to be Jadeveon Clowney's.

We saw what UGA linebacker Jarvis Jones did to Missouri. His nine tackles, two sacks, forced fumble, interception and five quarterback hurries, led the Bulldogs to a 41-20 win over the Tigers on Sept 8. After the game, UGA head coach Mark Richt called Jones "Maybe the best defensive player in the country."

When Missouri comes to Williams-Brice on Saturday, Clowney will look to put up even better numbers than Jones, showing the world the best defensive player in the country plays for South Carolina, not Georgia.

Just like Jones, Clowney can crack the code to Missouri's spread offense. Jones admitted to figuring out the Tigers' snap count, making it easier for him to beat players off the ball. If a bigger and faster player like Clowney can do the same, there's no doubt he can finish Saturday's game with some pretty incredible statistics.

Missouri will have likely improved upon the mistakes they made against Georgia, but the belief is there that Saturday could bring a massive opportunity for Clowney.

Sept. 22 could be Clowney's statement game, one where Richt remembers why he used the word "Maybe" when referring to Jones as the best defensive player in the country.
