South Carolina commit Gerald Turner (Goose Creek, S.C.) will wear Garnet and Black next year, but right now the 6-foot-1, 240-pound inside linebacker is focused on the state playoffs.
On Friday, the 11-0 Goose Creek Gators will face the 5-6 Conway Tigers in the opening round of the Class AAAA, Division II playoffs.
"We feel really good about the way we've played this season. We're not going to be too confident thinking we'll go through the playoffs easily. We're just going to take it one game at a time," said Turner.
Behind Turner, The Gators' defense is giving up just 10 points per game.
"It's just about going out there and playing our game," he said.
When the playoffs are over, Turner will shift his focus back to the Gamecocks and plan to take an official visit.
The talented linebacker verbally committed to South Carolina in March and said his bond with both Steve Spurrier Jr. and Brad Lawing sealed the deal.
"We talk almost every week. They ask me about my school and football. I also talk to Coach Spurrier sometimes too," he said.
Turner said his commitment to the Gamecocks is so solid, other schools have stopped recruiting him all together.
"There are no other schools coming after me right now. They know I am sticking with the Gamecocks," he said.
Turner was also selected to the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
The 76th annual event will be played December 15th at Wofford College.
