Woods is Talk of the Town in Columbia

Five-star point guard Seventh Woods receives offers from many notable basketball programs, including South Carolina.

Basketball season may have come to an end, but Scout.com five-star recruit Seventh Woods has everyone in Gamecock country buzzing about basketball.

The Columbia, South Carolina native resides at Hammond and stands at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds. As a point guard, Woods is ranked at the no. 1 spot on Scout.com in his position.

NCAA rules dictate that college coaches can begin contacting players on June 15 after each athletes sophomore season.

That was Saturday for Woods.

June 16th was filled with calls for the five-star recruit, and South Carolina was one of those. North Carolina, Clemson, Duke, and Baylor all followed suit in pursuing the class of 2016 point guard.

The Gamecocks finished off last season 14-20 overall, ending the season to Tennessee in the Quarterfinals of the SEC tournament. The roster, being fairly young, was equipped with seven freshmen, five sophomores, and only four upperclassmen.

South Carolina has seen eight NCAA Tournament appearances in the history of the program, the last one being in 2004.

According to Scout.com, Woods has the "extra gear" that separates him from even players that are considered elite athletes. It's his full-court fury and quickness that make him so unique. His athleticism, transition as a player, and potential to grow are all the qualities that create a recipe for a rising legend.

Woods is scheduled for a visit with UNC next week and sees this trip as a chance to measure his abilities against college and pro players. The all-star noted his choice in college will be somewhere he is comfortable on and off the court.
