Dozier working on building relationships
After playing on a torn ACL for more than four years, Perry Dozier, a four-star recruit out of Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley, opted to have surgery to repair his knee in early September. Dozier then hit the court again this spring playing with Curt Wheeler's Upward Stars team. He also earned an invitation back to NBPA Top 100 Camp, which took place this past weekend. In eight camp games, Dozier, a 6-foot-6 wing, scored 9.9 points, which was good for fourth best on his camp team. He also tossed out 17 total assists and hit 34 of his 66 field goal attempts. A skilled guard, Dozier's versatility is what stands out the most about his game. Offensively he can play the one through the three at times, although at this stage he appears best as a wing. Dozier is a tremendous passer that handles the ball well and is an improving shooter from mid-range. During camp, Scout.com caught up with Dozier to discuss his recruitment. He said he has scholarship offers from and routinely talks to Indiana, Ohio State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Clemson, Georgetown, Georgia Tech and others. "Most of them have showed just about the same," he said when asked who was recruiting him the hardest. "I talk to most of the coaches each week. Roy [Williams] from North Carolina, coach [John] Thompson from Georgetown, Ohio State, Kansas and South Carolina." Which head coaches does he have the best relationships with? "Just about all of them that I've been talking to a lot," he said. "I told them that was one of the main factors that will play a part in my choosing a school. I'm just trying to build relationships with the coaching staffs." The next step in Dozier's recruitment is setting up visits. "I've been thinking about it," he said. "I still don't have it mapped out on the calendar or set dates or anything, but that's definitely something I'm looking forward to." "As many as I can really for the unofficials of course," he added. "I just want to see some different campuses and their environments." Dozier is currently regarded as the No. 51 overall player and No. 14 at the shooting guard position.
