It's sounds pretty cut and dry for Tavares Chase. This 2016 wide receiver prospect from Plant City (Fla.) has been red-hot this spring and summer. He has collected scholarship offers from teams like Florida, Miami, Michigan Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Michigan State, South Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State and others.
But the big one eludes Mr. Chase. It's his childhood favorite and the one he has dreamed of playing for every since he can remember.
"The one I am waiting on is from Florida State," Chase said. "That's my school. That's my dream school. I just have always wanted to play for them. Coach [Lawrence] Dawsey came by this spring. They just want to see me at camp. I will be up there next month.
Many kids these days would be upset at the school that they have long wanted to play for is the one hold out when it comes to an offer. Not Chase.
"I wouldn't want it any other way," Chase said. "I have to earn it. It will be my chance. I know I have to keep climbing. I have to stay humble and keep climbing."
Maybe it works out for Chase. Maybe it doesn't. Regardless of what happens next month or beyond with the Seminoles, he still has plenty of suitors.
"Auburn is the latest school to offer me," Chase said. "That's a big one for me.
"They are a great school but right now my top three schools [that have offered] are Clemson, Miami and Florida. We will see what happens. I have a long way to go."
