Learfield Sports Directors' Cup:SC takes 35th

South Carolina is making national headlines for its sports programs by taking 35th overall in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup out of 297 institutions.

The University of South Carolina posted its placement in the 2013-2014 Learfield Sports Directors, Cup standings announced on Friday. The Gamecocks finished 35th among 297 total teams. This was the highest finish for the university since the 2006-2007 season and 12-spots better than it's 47th finish last year.

The award is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program, achieving success in many sports, both men and women's. The program took off in 1993-1994 for Division I by NACDA and USA Today. It expanded its horizons in 95' and 96' to include Division II, III and the NAIA.

Division I is allotted 20 points overall, 10 in men's sports and 10 in women's, and the overall winner is the school that records the highest number of points in their division's Director's Cup standings.

Stanford took the crown for the 20th consecutive time, with 1,482 points. Following the Cardinal, was Florida, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Penn State.
