Hughes hopes to decide before season

MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Mike Hughes is one of the top cornerbacks in North Carolina. Scout.com caught up with the New Bern (N.C.) standout at the Shrine Bowl 100 invite-only camp.

"I've only been to two schools so far this summer – North Carolina and NC State – and both visits went pretty well," said Mike Hughes. "I already knew what to expect because I had been to those two schools a few times already."

He actually visited both schools on the same day, with the first being NC State.

"It was pretty good," said the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Hughes. "I had a chance to meet with some of the players and talk to them for a while."

Next, he went to North Carolina for Fedora's Freak Show.

"It was a great atmosphere," he said. "I got to compete against some of the best athletes in the country and I felt like I did pretty well."

What's next for Hughes?

"Hopefully, my next visit will be to South Carolina," he said. "I'll probably narrow it down after that –probably to five or three – sometime this month.

"North Carolina and NC State will definitely make it. I've built a great relationship with those coaches and I feel like I'd fit in well at those programs."

Hughes said he hopes to make his decision before the season starts.
