The Opening: Previewing A.J. Turner

Scout.com is profiling each member from the East Region heading to The Opening this week at Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, and in this installment we look at Clifton (Va.) Centreville uncommitted running back A.J. Turner.

A.J. Turner

Position: Running back
Team: Alpha Pro
Ht.: 5-11 Wt.: 187
High school: Clifton (Va.) Centreville

Recruiting Situation: Turner is contemplating a decision at The Opening, and he has five schools on his list. Turner’s top five are Clemson, Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina and Virginia, and he knows plenty about each school already.

Scouting Report: Turner is an instinctive runner with great vision who is a threat to go the distance every time he touches the football. He is patient and does a fantastic job of following his blockers. Once he sees an opening, Turner attacks it and does a nice job running behind his pads. Overall, he should contribute early in his college career and has the potential to become a big-time running back. –Michael Clark, Scout.com recruiting analyst

At Stake: Turner is a four-star prospect and is right on the edge of the Scout 300. He is the No. 295 prospect in the class, and the No. 40 running back. A strong showing at The Opening will boost Turner’s stock since it will demonstrate his ability to catch the ball and also show case his explosion and elusiveness.
