The fourth year of The Opening Starts July 7th and will go until July 10th. During that time, 162 prospects will square off on ESPNU in various contests.
Over the course of the year, these invitees have been chosen based on their performance at various camps and film from seasons past. Athletes, like South Carolina’s own Mike Davis, have really benefited from the overall camp/competition.
The Beaverton, Oregon-based camp is at Nike’s headquarters and gives recruits a unique chance to showcase their talent against top competitors.
Here is what you will need to be expecting over the next couple of days.
The Elite 11
This is a quarterback competition that takes place July 5-6 and showcases 18 players. Each will receive top training on the field and in the classroom from professionals that range from NFL players to QB coaches.
The Opening 2014
This is the premier showcase for recruits, and there are several events involved There is a SPARQ Championship, which is made up of the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, shuttle and power-ball toss. The competitors with the highest score go on to compete later in the week to see who takes the crown.
Players are grouped into six various teams and Duke it out with a 7-on-7 competition. Each of these teams will have three QB’s from the Elite 11 roster.
The offensive and defensive linemen will also match up for a separate challenge.
