Mike Davis Named to Maxwell Award Watch List

The University of South Carolina's own Mike Davis was named to the 2014 Maxwell Award watch list.

Running back Mike Davis has been named to the preseason watch list for the 78th annual Maxwell Award.

Named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, the Maxwell Award has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell’s contributions to the game of football were tremendous.

The 5-foot-9, 223 pound Atlanta-native logged the fourth highest single-season rushing yards in school history last season with 1,183, while earning second-team All-SEC accolades. He’s named a preseason third team All-American by Phil Steele and Athlon’s magazines.

The Maxwell Football Club’s selection committee analyzed both past performance and future potential to compile the watch list. The Club can add or delete athletes on the list as the 2014 season unfolds.

All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, FBS head coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.

Last year, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron took the crown home.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 3, 2013. From that group, three finalist for the award will be unveiled November 24th. The winner is set to be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 11, 2014.

The formal presentations of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by the Revel Casino Hotel in Atlantic City on March 6, 2015.
