41 Days Until Kick-Off

The University of South Carolina kicks-off in 41 days against Texas A&M. Take a look at who stands at No. 41 on the roster and what we can expect from the Gamecocks this season.

Senior linebacker Kyle Morini stands at No. 41 on the roster and highlights today’s countdown until kick-off. Only 41 days stand between Gamecock fans and William-Brice Stadium.

Morini graced the South Carolina campus for the first time in January of 2013. The walk-on saw action in two games last season, including the bowl win over Wisconsin.

Being named to win the SEC-Eastern Division title by the SEC Media Days, the Gamecocks have a bright future ahead for 2014. Head coach Steve Spurrier even briefed in his press conference on what it will take for South Carolina to claim the ultimate prize, an SEC Championship.

”We need one of those Eastern Division teams to lose a game. We’ve gone 6-2 in the conference and beat the division winner three years in a row. Then they go 7-1,” Spurrier said.

An SEC Championship could be monumental for this team. However, Spurrier noted South Carolina fans know there’s more to life than winning an SEC title.

“We’re in a state with Clemson. Clemson used to pretty much own South Carolina in football, no question about it. We have a state championship trophy. If you ask our fans at South Carolina, I can assure you a majority would say, We would rather beat Clemson than win the SEC.”

From a personal standpoint, the legendary coach noted he’d rather win the SEC because it’s a bigger trophy, and it’s still the teams goal.

“Hopefully we can add an SEC championship. I can assure you. I tell those recruits, If you come here, hopefully you’ll be on the first-ever SEC championship team ever.”
