Denzel Johnson Profile

So what's the latest with Johnson?

"I believe South Carolina is about to offer me."

Johnson was supposed to camp with the Gamecocks in June but was unable to attend. He has a good vibe obviously with the Gamecocks and explained why.

"Coach Lorenzo Ward said that it is fine and that he will see me in the season. He said he is going to try to come to my first game. We had FCA camp two weeks ago and their quarterback Dylan Thompson was there and me and him talked a little. He saw me play at wide receiver and he liked it and he told everyone in a speech he gave that I separate myself from others."

With South Carolina being the hometown school we asked Johnson if they were to offer what it'd mean to him so that his family and friends can come see him play nearby for the SEC school?

"It'd mean a lot to me. I would probably commit if they offer."

Currently Johnson holds offers from Clemson, Liberty, Louisville, Notre Dame, and South Carolina State. Some schools are recruiting him at safety while others like him at wide receiver.

Other schools remain in the mix along with South Carolina like Wake Forest and Auburn. Johnson made it to camp with Auburn but couldn't make it to check out Wake Forest. He broke it all down for us about both schools.

"At the Auburn camp I ran a 4.47 40 time and I also posted a 33.7 inch vertical. They have told me that I am definitely on their radar still. I didn't make it to Wake Forest but they told me that they will be down to see me play this year because they are really interested too."

Louisville has already secured a commitment from another in-state prospect, running back Matt Colburn, and we asked Johnson what the Cardinals have been saying and where things stand with them currently.

"Louisville interests me a lot especially with them offering already. I was telling the coach there that they are in my top three."

Clemson was the first school to offer Johnson and he says he still maintains communications with the Tigers from "time to time".

Right now he informed us that Liberty, South Carolina, and South Carolina State are recruiting him the hardest.

He's hoping to land more offers early on in the season with a fast start to his senior year. We'll keep you abreast of all the happenings regarding Denzel Johnson's recruitment here on!
