Countdown to Kick-Off: 27 Days

The ‘talkin’-season’, as the Old Ball Coach likes to call it, is just about up. South Carolina has less than a month until kick-off and garnet and black are ready to go. In 27-days, Williams-Brice Stadium will once again be loaded down and ready for the 2014 season. Check out 27 reasons to celebrate the upcoming season.

“I truly believe if you have a good year, you enjoy it. It gives the players something to enjoy, looking forward to. It encourages them to have a big year.” head coach Steve Spurrier said.

With three 11-2 seasons under their belts, the Gamecocks have certainly made their mark and will have something to look forward to in the coming year.

“We have fun introducing all the seniors in the Spring Game and trying to celebrate our accomplishments of the past year. So hopefully, our guys on the team this year now, they see that, they want that.”

Gamecock football has many reasons to celebrate its accomplishments, successes, and future. Let’s take a look at 27 reasons fans should get excited for this upcoming football season and celebrate Carolina football.

1. South Carolina is already making headlines being picked to win the Eastern Division title and ranked no. 9 in the USA Today Amway Preseason Coaches Poll.
2.One word: Sandstorm.
3.The Gamecocks are tied for the fifth-longest current streak of beating ranked in the Associated Press’s Top-25.
4.The Gamecocks have a school record 18-game home winning streak.
5.Last season, every game was generally considered sold out in Carolina, ranking 14th in the nation in average home attendance 82,401 in the 80,250-seat Williams-Brice.
6.South Carolina is 12-5 in their last 17 true road contests. Four of the five road losses in that stretch came to nationally-ranked opponents.

8.Last season, South Carolina defeated Missouri for their first overtime game win in the school history.

12.South Carolina hs 56 returning lettermen, 27 on offense, 23 on defense, and 6 on special teams.
13.Carolina just placed the no. 1 player selected in the NFL Draft.
14.The University of South Carolina was founded in 1801, 49-years before California was a state. USC was taken a long time ago, Southern Cal.

16.The Gamecocks return 78% of their rushing yards, 26% of their passing yards and and 75% of their receiving yards from over a year ago.
