13 Days and Counting: Special Teams

The Gamecocks were at it again at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds” on Friday morning. With only 13-days left before the season opener against the Aggies, the Gamecocks special teams coach Joe Robinson was pleased with the performance of his unit.

“They’re doing really well,” said Robinson of his special team performers.

“We haven’t really had to make any final decisions yet, but (placekicker) Elliott (Fry) started out in camp in the place he was last year. He’s performed very well. He’s worked on his consistency. (Return specialist) Pharoh (Cooper) has done some great things. We know what he can do. (Punter) Tyler Hull has had a really good camp too,” continued Robinson. “He’s made some adjustments and hopefully that will pay off for him because he’s worked very hard. We’re pleased with all of them.”

Robinson noted there are plenty of open slots for kickoff duties, with Landon Ard, Fry, and newcomer Zack Cimaglia.

“You’d like if you can to try to spread the load around a little bit,” said Robinson. “They’re all three working at it, but Landon has had a really good camp.”

Saturday, South Carolina head to Williams-Brice for a scrimmage at 10 a.m. It is closed to the public.
