Countdown to Kick-Off: 12 Days

The Gamecocks are gearing up for the 2014 season and will scrimmage today as part of fall camp. With only 12 days until the much anticipated kick-off rolls around, there’s a lot of work left to be done on the field. Check out who stands at no. 12 on your Gamecock roster.

Senior Brison Williams is a versatile player coming into the 2014 season, with some much needed experience. The Warner Robins, Ga.-native was noted in the preseason fourth-team All SEC in Phil Steele.

5-foot-11, 208 lbs, Williams has played 33 games with the garnet and black over the past three seasons, making 24 starts.

In 2010, the Northside-alum signed with Carolina in February and attended Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. The 2011 season rolled around and the true freshman enrolled in the spring, but suffered a broken arm during fall camp. He was then sidelined for the first four weeks of the season, but made his debut against Auburn, playing in eight games total.

The SS played in all 13 games his sophomore year in 2012. Williams notched 52 tackles, including 43 solo stops. Last season, he played in 12 games, starting 11, and was credited with 45 tackles, including 32 solo stops.

Coming into 2014, it is noted that Williams could play either of the safety spots or could be used as cornerback. He is listed on the preseason depth chart as first team at the SS position, above Kadetrix Marcus and Chris Moody.

Throughout practice, Williams has practiced as cornerback, but no further and lasting decisions will be made until after the first game at Williams-Brice on August 28.
