Countdown to Kick-Off: 9 Days

The University of South Carolina kicks-off in just nine short days and have started preparing for next Thursday’s match-up against the Texas A&M Aggies. While the countdown continues, check out who stands at no.9 on your Gamecock roster.

Sharrod Golightly is from Decatur, Ga. and has become one of the top performers on defense. The SPR is a preseason second-team All SEC pick by Phil Steele and earned second-team All SEC recognition by the AP. Standing 5-foot-10, 187 pounds, he underwent minor left knee surgery in the off-season and was limited in the spring.

Golightly redshirted as a true freshman in 2010, after graduating from Southwest DeKalb High School. 2011 brought light and new opportunities, where he saw action in 12 of 13 games as a RS freshman and was primarily on special teams.

In 2012, the Spur played in eight games, notching three tackles. It wasn’t until 2013 that the Georgia-peach got his start.

Starting all 12 regular season games at Spur, he logged 47 tackles, including six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

This year, he is listed at the top of the SPR position, ahead of sophomore Jordan Diggs and sophomore Larenz Bryant. will keep you updated on the countdown to kick-off the rest of the preseason.
