No.5, Darius English, DE, 6’6”, 241 lbs.
Standing at the top of the preseason depth chart, this Powder Springs, Ga.-native is an excellent pass rusher coming off the corner.
During his freshman year, English notched three tackles and saw action in two games. He injured his right wrist and petitioned for a medical redshirt.
2013 brought a new set of challenges to the redshirt freshman and allowed more playing time on the field. The McEachern-alum came back strong, playing in all 13 games with one start. He logged 19 tackles, forced a fumble in the season opener against North Carolina and made his first career start against Kentucky, replacing Jadeveon Clowney because of an injury.
No. 5, Brendan Nosovitch, QB, 6’1”, 221 lbs.
Previously thinking of transferring, Nosovitch has decided to stay at Carolina. The Allentown, Pa. wanted to seek elsewhere to find more playing time as a quarterback. He will continue to explore the QB position but will see some time at wide receiver, as well.
Nosovitch redshirted as a true freshman, but as a third string quarterback in 2013, he saw his first action in the win at Arkansas and scored the game’s final touchdown on a seven-yard run.
