USC vs. ECU: A Quick History

South Carolina will be the first of three-straight “Power Five” match-ups for the Pirates. In 2012, the Gamecocks took a 48-10 victory over East Carolina and will look to bounce back from the season-opener against A&M. Take a look at some facts and notes on Saturday’s game.

ECU is coming off of a 52-7 win over North Carolina Central in it’s opener. head coach Steve Spurrier will be scouting for his 50th home win at Carolina and 200th win as an SEC coach.

East Carolina head coach Ruffin McNeill is in his fifth season with the Pirates, and the South Carolina game stands as his 53rd game. The 2014 season marks his 29th year as a head coach at the collegiate level. McNeil joined ECU after spending time at Texas Tech, Nevada-Las Vegas, and Appalachian State.

The Pirates have qualified for nine bowl appearances since 2000 and won three of the last five regular season non-conference road games.

South Carolina holds a strong 12-5-0 record over the Pirates, taking its last loss in 1999 and will be putting a 15-game winning streak against non-conference opponents on the line on Saturday.
