Blackshear Out for the Season

South Carolina commit Four-star defensive end Shameik Blackshear will be out the rest of the 2014 season, due to a knee injury.

Committing to the Gamecocks back in May of 2013, Blackshear injured his knee during his senior season at Bluffton High School in Bluffton, S.C. in only the second game.

Sources told TheState.com on Tuesday, the class of 2015 commit will undergo surgery for a torn ACL.

Here is what Scout’s Chad Simmon’s had to note about the athletic Palmetto State native.

“Blackshear is a long and athletic rush end who is strong off the edge. He is an end who can fire off the edge with his hand down or standing up. He has great length, his hands are quick, and he can chase the quarterback down from the backside. He has a good frame that can easily carry more weight. As he develops physically, he will get stronger and become better against the run. His first step off the ball is a real strength.”

Blackshear is ranked fifth in his position and 37th overall on Scout.com. He chose South Carolina over schools like Tennessee, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, and North Carolina.
