4 Things We Learned from Practice Thursday

South Carolina (2-1, 1-1 SEC) takes on Vanderbilt (1-2, 0-1 SEC) in Nashville at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward met with the media after practice on Thursday. Check out four things we can expect at this Saturday’s game.

1.South Carolina will be seeing an offensive scheme similar to Georgia’s.
“They are going to do a lot of things that Georgia did,” said Ward. (They) play two tight ends, move them around, two-back sets.”
“They run the football, added Ward. “I know Coach Mason from when he was at Stanford, he and I spent some time together, he wants to be a physical football team so we have to be ready to play a physical football game.”

2. The defense has room for improvement but has made strides.
“We still have a lot of room for improvement,” noted Ward. “(Our) offense has played pretty well but we haven’t played very well on defense yet.”
Georgia's 191 passing yards and the 408 yards of total offense are the lowest for a Gamecock opponent this season. South Carolina's defense held the Bulldogs to just 18 first downs.

3. Brison Williams may play a new role at safety
Williams injured forearm doesn’t seem to be getting in the way of his playing time. This senior has a lot of experience, starting 11 of 12 games last season. He saw action at both free and strong safety, notching 45 tackles.

4. Al Harris Jr. and Rico McWilliams will more than likely be your starters at cornerback.
