VIDEO: MBB Press Conference Takeaways

Frank Martin & Co. finished off the season last year 14-20 overall and 5-13 in conference play. The Gamecocks are ready to vamp up once again and held the first press conference Monday afternoon. Here are the top takeaways and what we can expect to see from South Carolina Men’s Basketball this upcoming season.

Take a look at head coach Frank Martin’s opening statement on Monday afternoon.

1.To South Carolina, there is no ‘I’ in team. Martin notes the team pushes each other to work hard and prepare for the upcoming season.
“You’ve got to be patient with them as they grow and understand what they are doing,” said Martin.

2.This team has graduated into a new era with experience under their belts. Senior guard Tyrone Johnson and sophomore Sindarius Thornwell will be leaders for South Carolina this year and said the team came in excited and put in hard work over the summer.

3. Recruiting is on the rise for this team. The Gamecocks snagged their first 2015 commit three-star power forward Chris Silva from Roselle, New Jersey in mid-September. Martin has invested a lot of his time and dedication to extending offers to prospects around the country to grow his team from the inside out.

Side Notes:
Shamiek Sheppard, one of four newcomers to the South Carolina team, is aiming to bring his talent to the table in 2015. Martin noted he is going to redshirt this season, after tearing his ACL in his right knee.
South Carolina will host Benedict College on Oct. 26 as part of a free exhibition at Colonial Life Arena. The match-up is set for 4 p.m. on the SEC Network.
