PODCAST-Fireside Chats: Bye Week Essentials

Although South Carolina is on a bye this week, the Gamecocks have been preparing for the upcoming game against Furman Saturday, Oct. 18. USC is now 3-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Despite a tough schedule, around 14 unanswered points in both the last two SEC match-ups is all that stands in the way for the Gamecock team having a 5-1 record.

Bye-Week Essentials

-Preparing for the rest of the season’s SEC play: It’s essential South Carolina takes the bye-week to rest up before the big opponents ahead. Top ranked Auburn will fall after next weekend’s Furman contest. Plus, the Vols and Gators will show no mercy for the Gamecocks coming in the last four games of the season.
-It’s important to recognize what has happened over the last two weeks: The Gamecocks could own a 5-1 record right now. Having beat two top-ranked teams in the nation right now, South Carolina has fallen in the fourth quarter to Mizzou and Kentucky the past two contests. The talent is well and alive for the garnet-and-black. It’s all about displaying it on the field.
-Mama knows best: Mom’s, girlfriends, grandmothers, etc, give these guys a pat on the back. Hopefully, these athletes will take the week off to rest up and return home for some moral support and good home cookin’, as Bill Gause noted. Regardless, the week should be reserved for restoring inner confidence and regrouping as a whole.
-It starts from within: As announced at practice this past week, the team held a meeting involving the team captains. It’s always great to address the ‘big elephant in the room’ and really vocalize problems that should be brought to the surface.
