Frank Martin: 'We've got the best fans'

The South Carolina Men’s Basketball team is coming out full-swing this season and hosting open practice on Friday from 6 - 7 p.m. The Gamecocks are ready to get their fans pumped up and ready for the season ahead.

Head coach Frank Martin is ready to get fans more involved this season and put his team out there. Take a look at what he had to say in Wednesday’s press conference.

Martin believes in what South Carolina has built up but says he’s seen some surprises over the weeks.
Demetrius Henry is a lot better than he was last year because he’s removed from the pressure,” said Martin. “We all sit there with freshmen and we, including me, think that its a lot easier than it is for freshmen. When you’re a freshman and you have a bad day, it gets exposed real bad when you’ve never been through it before.”
“He wasn’t physically ready. He wanted to be, but he just couldn’t do it.”

Henry said his focus this summer started in the weight room.

”I basically lived in the weight room this summer,” said Henry. “It brings confidence and also makes you better. I just lived with Coach Scott (Greenawalt) and I think that was the biggest thing during the offseason for me.”

Hard work pays off, and the Gamecocks understand that.

”I’ve been through it with Scott Greenawalt for 10 years. When guys buy into what he does, and if they last in our program, that means they bought in. The growth that they show as athletes is phenomenal,” said Martin.”

The Gamecocks open practice is from 6-7 p.m. at the practice facility located on the corner of Blossom and Assembly streets. Admission is free and doors will open at 5:45 p.m. The team will hold an intra-squad scrimmage beginning just after 6 p.m.
