Ty Johnson will be back in the mix for the Gamecocks on Sunday against Benedict College. The senior from Villanova say action in 16 games with nine starts before his season-ending foot injury in the game against Texas A&M, January 15th.
Johnson will pose as a leader for the team, being the only senior to grace the roster. South Carolina comes into the 2014-2015 season as a young bunch but much more experienced that last year.
The Gamecocks list five sophomores and three freshmen on its roster. Now that players like Duane Notice and Sindarius Thornwell have a little experience under their belts, USC will be off to a good start this fall.
Check out what head coach Frank Martin had to say in his press conference on Monday.
The season has slowly creeped its way into plain sight and starting off with the exhibition game at home this Sunday, Martin notes the team is excited about the upcoming opportunities.
A lot of excitement, extremely excited about our two freshmen and what they bring to the table,” said Martin.
Martin has been focusing on bringing the team together not only in a practice setting, but in a community aspect as well. The head coach has placed his players in community involvement with programs like ‘8K in 8 Days’, where players were out interacting through community service.
I’m all about putting our players in a place where they realize how important it is to understand the power that they have through what they do to impact people in the community in which they live.”
South Carolina will host Benedict College in a free admission exhibition game to the public on Sunday, October 26 at 4 p.m.
