Garnet and Black World Series Recap

Take a look at a recap of the Garnet and Black World Series this fall for Gamecock baseball.

Game 1 Recap

The Black squad defeated the Garnet squad 5-3 in the first game of the Garnet and Black World Series. LHP Jack Wynkoop started for the Black squad. He threw 5 innings, allowed 3 runs, and struck out 3. LHP Vince Fiori started for the Garnet squad. He worked 3 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs, 5 hits, and 5 walks. He also struck out 5 batters.

The Black squad struck first in the 1st inning plating 2 runs. A base hit by Max Schrock scored Gene Cone and Marcus Mooney to even things up at 2 in the top of the 3rd. Clark Scolamiero singled in the bottom of the 4th scoring Jared Williams to give the Black a 3-2 lead. The Garnet answered back in the top of the 5th as Everett Eynon scored on a sac fly by Kyle Martin. Elliot Caldwell broke the game open in the 8th for the Black with a triple scoring 2. Caldwell tried to stretch the triple into another run, but was out at home after a collision at the plate thus ending the inning.

Game 2 Recap

Game 2 of the Garnet and Black World Series ended in a 3-3 tie. The teams combined for 14 hits and 2 errors on the afternoon. RHP Reed Scott started for the Black squad. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. RHP Tyler Haswell started for the Garnet squad. He pitched 4 innings, and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. Clark Scolamiero plated the first run for the Black squad after singling in the top of the 1st. The Garnet squad answered back in the bottom of the 1st as Gene Cone scored on a sac fly by Kyle Martin.

The Black squad regained the lead in the top of the 3rd when DC Arendas hit a solo shot over the right field wall. The Garnet squad tacked on 2 more runs in the bottom of the 4th. Mooney doubled, Schrock followed with a single that was misplayed by Scolamiero and they both scored taking a 3-2 lead. The Black squad tied things up in the top of the 8th at 3. Jordan Gore scored the tying run. Gore had a single and 3 walks on the afternoon.

Game 3 Recap

The Black squad took the series with a 6-4 win over the Garnet squad in 7 innings today. The squads combined for 16 hits on the afternoon. LHP John Parke got the start for the Garnet, and RHP Clarke Schmidt started for the Black squad. Kyle Martin doubled to score Marcus Mooney who was hit by a pitch to start things off in the top of the 1st. An Alex Destino single scored Martin, and the Garnet took a 2-0 lead.

An RBI single from Stokes scored Arendas in the bottom of the 1st to give the Black a run. The Garnet tacked on another run in the top of the 2nd with a homer from Thatcher Coleman. Kyle Martin came in to pitch for the Garnet in the bottom of the 2nd, he pitched 4 innings. Black plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd taking a 4-3 lead. Marcus Mooney answered back in the top of the 3rd going yard over the left field wall. Elliot Caldwell and DC Arendas scored with RBIs from Madison Stokes and Logan Koch in the bottom of the 5th. The Black squad took a 6-4 lead and never looked back.
