A win to be bowl-eligible for a 10th-straight season is exacty what South Carolina will be looking for on Saturday afternoon.
The defense showed out in big ways with its best game of the year last Saturday in The Swamp. Defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward made a couple of changes with his team, and it seemed to pay off. With Skai Moore at Mike and Jonathan Walton at Will, linebackers coach Kirk Botkin said on Tuesday night the change did pretty well.
“They’re both playmakers,” said linebackers coach Kirk Botkin. “They both make a lot of plays for us. They’re still young. There’s a lot to Mike linebacker of communicating and setting the front,” continued Botkin. “Seven or eight guys are totally dependent on what he says. We had the open week so we decided to do it then and teach Skai the Mike spot. For the first time out, I thought he did pretty well. Consistency still with those guys is the biggest thing – just doing their job day in, day out and every play.”
Ironically enough, the two are roommates, and Moore said he was pretty excited to be able to have the experience with his good friend.
“We motivate each other. We get each other hype. It’s awesome,” said Moore.
“We’ve been talking about that since day one, talking about playing together, and getting both of us out on the field and how exciting it would be. We got the opportunity last week and just made it happen.”
