Former Gamecock Gause Talks MBB

After dominating Cornell in a 69-45 victory on Thursday night, South Carolina started off the 2014 Charleston Classic the right way. The Gamecocks will face Charlotte on Friday in the Semifinal Round, and the contest will pose as the first since the 2000-2001 campaign. Former Gamecock Bill Gause joins to talk about South Carolina and the upcoming game.

It’s the second time South Carolina has participated in the Charleston Classic, and this time, the Gamecocks are hoping to take a Championship win home to Columbia.

In 2009, USC took wins over LaSalle and USF before falling 85-70 to Miami (Fla.) in the final game.

Charlotte stands as the Gamecocks next opponent in the tournament. The team is 2-0 in the season thus far, defeating Penn State Thursday night 106-97 to clinch the next round. Going into double-overtime, five 49ers posted double-figures. Head coach Alan Major is in his fifth season with Charlotte, and the team has nine returning letterwinners and four starts from the 2013 Puerto Rico Championship team. The squad was also picked to finished third in the preseason Conference USA Coaches poll.

Charlotte and South Carolina have met three times, with the Gamecocks holding a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. The teams have met in Columbia, in Charlotte, and on a neutral court.
