Gamecocks Pick Up Major Commitment

As we reported the last time we spoke with this prospect, he was close to committing - and he did. The Gamecocks got some much needed help in a major way and by doing so filled a major hole today when this player dropped by on the way back to school ...

Jonathan Joseph of Coffeyville Community College in Kansas has committed to play football at the University of South Carolina.

Joseph is considered one of the rising stars in the JuCo ranks this year, a major talent as a cornerback. He will be expected to step in and contribute immediately in light of the Gamecocks having holes to fill in the secondary next season. He is the eighth commitment for the Gamecocks already this early in the season.

"I like the school and I like their coaching staff a lot," Joseph told The Insiders. "It's a great school and they have a big need for corners next season. Besides, Coach Roberts is a real cool person. I think I can start immediately and that definitely played into my decision."

Joseph was also being recruited by Florida State and was hearing regularly from former Seminole Chris Hope, also a Rock Hill product.

Joseph will get the ball rolling for the corner and defensive back commitments and his Gamecock nod may affect former teammate C.J. Barber as well. Another Rock Hill product Lamont Williams is also a heavy Gamecock lean but recent reports indicate that he may need Junior College time before qualifying for enrollment at South Carolina.
