South Carolina's 27-21 win was the fourth consecutive victory over Kentucky. The Gamecocks now have an 8-6-1 lead in the series.
The 27 yard first period pass reception by Hart Turner was a career long for the senior tight end. Turner's previous long was 26 yards in 2002. He had a 23 yarder earlier this season.
Daccus Turman scored three touchdowns against Kentucky, the second time this season that a Gamecock has scored three TDs in a game. Demetris Summers scored three times against Alabama-Birmingham. Turman scored on runs of one, two and one yards, giving him six touchdowns this season and nine for his career.
Demetris Summers had two punt returns of 38 and 28 yards. Both bettered his previous long punt return of 17 yards. Summers had 155 yards of all purpose yardage. In addition to 66 on two punt returns he rushed for 66 yards on 16 carries and caught three passes for 33 yards.
Redshirt junior Brian Brownlee and freshman Noah Whiteside had their first career receptions in a 46 yard second quarter drive that led to a 21 yard field goal by Daniel Weaver. The catch by Brownlee covered 10 yards and Whiteside's reception covered nine yards. Brownlee had a second 10 yard reception in the fourth period.
Weaver's second field goal of the game was from 31yards as time expired to give the Gamecocks a 13-7 halftime lead. The two first half field goals stretched Weaver's successful streak to four after a one for five start. He is 5-9 this season and 29-44 for his career.
Kris Clark caught his first pass of the season in the 66 yard 12 play drive to the second Weaver field goal. The pass covered eight yards and Clark is the fifteenth different Gamecock receiver to catch a pass this season. Clark had five receptions as a freshman in 2002.
The announced crowd of 78,592 was the first Gamecock crowd of less than 80,000 in four home games this season. The four game total is 321,492, an average of 80,373 per game.
The third period recovery of a Kentucky fumble by Moe Thompson was the second fumble recovery of the season by Thompson. He had two fumble recoveries as a freshman in 2002.
The 44 yard third quarter pass reception by Syvelle Newton was a season long. The previous long reception by the freshman was 21 yards.
