Ron Zook Comments On The South Carolina Game

Exclusive: Ron Zook was interviewed this morning specifically about the upcoming South Carolina game and what he should expect heading into Columbia, South Carolina this week to face a struggling Gamecock football team. Here is what he had to say ...

Coach, thank you for your time. I'll get right to the questions.

Q: This week you travel to South Carolina. What are your thoughts on the game and how will you get your team up for the Gamecocks?

Ron Zook: "We all know what they can do. They played a very good Tennessee team in Knoxville and scared them on their own field. This is a dangerous team, I tell you that right now. We gotta play our game and take the fans out of the game."

Q: South Carolina will be without it's leading rusher (Demetris Summers) this week, how does that change your strategy?

Ron Zook: "You never like to see a young man get hurt, but we all know the type of talent they have up there. We recruited a lot of those kids. People say that the top rusher is out and that gives us an edge. That really isn't so, they have talent that is two or three deep. We gotta prepare for their A game ‘cause every man there can bring it."

Q: The Gamecocks seem to struggle in November every year, why is that?

Ron Zook: "First we need to make sure they don't get back on track this week. They can play with anyone, I tell ya that right now. You can't let up against them because they are never too far out of the game. They can come back on ya' and man, then your in trouble."

Q: South Carolina will be aiming for you Saturday, how do you prepare your team to face 85,000 rabid fans?

Ron Zook: "We face them every time we go on the road. We need to focus on what we went there to do and not let their fans rattle us. They have a great setting up there, some vocal fans for sure. That place can be a snake pit if your not careful. We gotta stay the course and do what needs to be done. This is a big game for us, and believe me they will be waiting."

Coach, thank you for your time again,

Ron Zook: "Thank you."
