Gamecocks pick one from Fla

South Carolina dipped into Florida for its latest offensive line commitment. Find out who this big man is in the latest scoop…

"I committed to South Carolina," says 6-foot-6 Estero (FL) offensive lineman Mike Gilmartin. "I liked the location, their head coach Lou Holtz, and the education I can get there is really good."

Gilmartin knows what his future role will be with the Gamecocks, and has accepted it.

"They told me the first year I would be red shirted so I can learn the offense and gain some weight. They saw me as a tackle, but all their linemen can play the other positions so that is not set in stone. I am at 270 right now, and they don't want me any higher than 295 once I get in there. They like to keep their linemen skinny and quick rather than bumps on a log."

Pittsburgh was, and still is, recruiting him along with Rutgers, Iowa State, Clemson, Syracuse, and Boston College. Clemson was the only school among those to offer.

"I saw the school already because I have been up there several times, and I really like it. I believe I am officially visiting the weekend of the 17th of January. I am still taking some other visits to make sure, because they lost their line coach, so we'll see. I am going to Rutgers and Pittsburgh, I think. We are still working it out."

Gilmartin plans to major in either civil engineering or history.
