Recently, Florida State has offered offensive tackle James Thompson a full scholarship. Where do the Noles stand for the Sumter (SC) lineman who checks in at 6-foot-5 and 310 pound with 4.95 40 speed?
"Florida State just offered me and I don't know a whole lot about them," he said. "I'm just getting to know them now. I can say that I like Coach Steele a lot though."
Thompson, who grew up a South Carolina Gamecock fan, has official visits set up to North Carolina (1/9), South Carolina (1/16), Clemson (1/23), and Florida State on (1/30).
"I'm open right now and I probably will wait until signing day to make a decision," he said. "I'm looking for plying time and a school with good academics. I would like to major in either business administration or communications."
Through the recruiting process, two college coaches have stood out in Thompson's mind.
"Coach Roberts of South Carolina and Coach Steele of Florida State stand out," he said. "Coach Roberts is so fun to be around. He makes me laugh. Coach Steele is very intense. He's very aggressive and dedicated."
Thompson touts his strength on the field to be pass-blocking. He compares his style to former Alabama All-American Chris Samuels.
Thompson has been selected to play in the North Carolina/South Carolina shrine bowl.
He has scored a 980 on the SAT test. Coach Paul Lounsberry is also recruiting Thompson for the Gamecocks.
