Gamecocks In The NFL

There is news about several Gamecocks now, or soon to be, in the NFL ...

According to published reports in Cleveland, the Browns are attempting to schedule Brandon Bennett for a visit in Cleveland. Like Bills running back Sammy Morris, Bennett is an effective receiver and a solid special teams player. Bennett also has good hands out of the backfield and occasionally spent time at fullback while with the Bengals.

FB Stanley Pritchett has been re-signed to a one-year deal by Chicago. Financial terms were not disclosed. Pritchett rushed for 93 yards and added 83 yards on 18 catches in an expanded role last season.

DE John Abraham's name has surfaced in trade talks. Abraham has shown Hall of Fame caliber play at times but has often been criticized for his brittle body and, lately, his attitude and off the field behavior. He had a hernia during his rookie season in 2000, sprained his right knee during training camp in 2002 (he didn't miss time but was limited at the start of the season) and missed eight games in 2003 with a groin injury that landed him on the injured reserve. Abraham, 25, still performed, though, with 13 and 10 sacks in 2001 and 2002 and six sacks in seven games. Yet Abraham got himself in trouble early last season when he crashed his car in a light pole in New York and was arrested for DWI. The Jets punished Abraham by deactivating him the following week. Because of their serious deficiencies at linebacker, the Jets talked of playing Abraham there next season, or at least using him as a stand-up pass rusher. If Abraham is traded, that would likely make underachieving Bryan Thomas the starter at right end. Thomas - a first-round pick in 2002 - had just one sack last season and none in 10 starts. Trading Abraham could also force the Jets to keep linebacker Sam Cowart, who was a candidate for release after two disappointing seasons.

Dunta Robinson, his toughest competition in the combines was LSU WR Devery Henderson. Other than that he has dominated with incredible athleticism, quickness and power. So far he has met with Miami, Indianapolis, New England.
