If you follow Ohio football recruiting, you are already aware of several of the state of Ohio's top players as their names have been circulating for quite some time. There are many more players who have yet to be discussed though. This is the time of year when we start to learn about many players we had not previously been familiar with, so you can expect several previously unheard names to be discussed in the coming weeks and months.
One player we haven't talked about yet is Cincinnati Moeller OL/DL Matthew Tennant. The 6-5, 250 pound Tennant is a great looking line prospect who will likely be among the top 40 players in the state of Ohio when the Ohio High rankings come out in April. Tennant reports a 4.8 40 and is already being contacted by several big time schools.
"I have been contacted weekly by Alabama, South Carolina and Indiana," Matt wrote in an e-mail. "Boston College, Purdue, and UK have just sent me intro and camp letters. Also, Michigan has requested film."
The addition of Rick Minter (Defensive Coordinator) and Steve Shankweiler (offensive line) to the Gamecock staff over the off-season is evidently already paying off for South Carolina.
Those are the first of many schools that will be contacting Matt this year. The list should grow once he gets to camps.
"I would love to go to the Nike camp and MLS camp if possible," he said. "I will to plan to go to either Michigan or OSU football camp this summer."
Matthew Tennant is one of several players to keep a close eye on in the coming months. Expect his stock to rise.
