Matt Campbell Named National Player of the Week!

Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina junior LHP Matt Campbell has been named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball following his performance last week on the mound. Campbell earned two wins vs. Yale and Delaware State to improve his record to 4-0 on the year and has not allowed a run in all 27 2/3 innings pitched this season. Campbell is the second USC player to receive National Player of the Week honors. Last week, RHP Billy Buckner earned the honors following his performance in South Carolina's 5-2 win vs. Clemson. Buckner worked a career-high seven 2/3 innings and struck out 16 batters, one short of a school record and allowed just two runs on three hits. vs. the Tigers.

South Carolina is 17-0 on the year and remains ranked No. 3 in the nation in the latest Baseball America Poll released this afternoon. South Carolina also remains ranked No. 4 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. The Gamecocks continue the homestand on Tuesday hosting Davidson at 7 p.m. at Sarge Frye Field. South Carolina will open SEC play this weekend with a three-game series vs. LSU at Sarge Frye Field. LSU is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Collegiate Baesball and No. 4 in the nation by Baseball America.

This is Matt Campbell's third time receving National Player of the Week honors. Campbell previously was named National Player of the Week twice last season.
