While most of the attention was on defensive lineman Shukree Barfield last season at Camden High School in New Jersey, another young defensive lineman was emerging. At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, James Pollard will get plenty of recruiting attention this season.
"He's real good," said Barfield. "He's quick and fast, real tough to handle for opposing tackles."
As a junior last season, Pollard finished the year with 35 tackles, 12 quarterback sacks, and one blocked punt. Despite the fact that he'll likely face more double and triple teams this season, watch those numbers go up even more this season.
Pollard, who carries a 2.5 GPA inside the classroom, is already getting plenty of recruiting attention. Although he doesn't have any scholarship offers yet, plenty of programs are sending him stuff on a regular basis. "Some of the schools I like right now at NC State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Iowa, and Virginia Tech," Pollard said. "I'm not sure which camps I'll go to. I'm basically undecided right now."
