Gamecocks Ranked 4th In Both Polls

Ray Tanner's South Carolina Gamecocks suffered their first and second loss of the season this past weekend. Here is what to expect this week along with the new Top 25 rankings ...

South Carolina ranked No. 4 in Collegiate Baseball & Baseball America Polls Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina baseball (19-2) begins a nine-game road swing on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford (8-7) in the dedication game of Russell C. King Field. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 4 in the latest Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls. South Carolina will start junior RHP Zac McCamie (1-0, 2.31 ERA) with junior LHP Chris Clark (1-0, 4.70 ERA) on the mound for the Terriers.

Tuesday night's game vs. Wofford is the first of three games vs. the Terriers this season for South Carolina. The Gamcocks will also play Wofford on Wednesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. and on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m., both games to be played in Columbia. The game scheduled for March 24 in Columbia has been cancelled and will not be made up. South Carolina leads the series vs. Wofford 57-21-1 including a 15-0 record under head coach Ray Tanner. South Carolina finished the week 2-2 with a win vs. Davidson and one of three wins vs. top ranked LSU in the first SEC series of the season … Senior catcher Landon Powell finished the week with a .556 batting average (10-for-18) with three doubles, a triple, two HR and 11 RBI … Powell tied a season-high with four hits Friday vs. LSU and finished with a season- high five RBI in Saturday's win vs. LSU including a three-run HR … Powell owns a 17-game hitting streak and leads the team with 13 multi-hit games on the year as well as a .420 batting average, five HR and 27 RBI … The three doubles for Powell on the week brought his season total to a team-high nine and moved him into a tie for second on the USC All-Time List with 53 in his career … Powell, senior INF Bryan Triplett, junior OF Brendan Winn and sophomore OF Michael Campbell have started and played all 21 games this season for South Carolina … Junior INF Steve Pearce went 3-for-3 with two walks and a HR in Sunday's loss vs. LSU, Pearce is batting .405 on the year with 11 HR and 32 RBI … The Gamecock pitching staff currently owns 237 strikeouts and just 27 walks in 190 innings pitched on the year … Junior RHP Aaron Rawl improved to 5-0 on the season with a victory in Saturday's 12-5 win vs. LSU, Rawl has worked a team-high 37.0 innings pitched and owns 31 strikeouts, four walks and a 2.43 ERA … Junior LHP Matt Campbell's scoreless inning streak on the season ended at 28 2/3 innings with a home run from LSU with no outs in the top of the second inning, Campbell is 4-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 48 strikeouts and three walks in 31 innings pitched … South Carolina begins a nine-game road swing this week traveling to Wofford on Tuesday night and to Fayetteville, Ark. for a three-game series vs. Arkansas.
