Allendale-Fairfax Safety Craving Attention

Another recruiting season, another bout for in-state prospects between the Gamecocks and the Tigers. This time around the battle is over Allendale-Fairfax (S.C.) safety Michael Washington. Both Palmetto State schools have offered the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder who owns a 4.60-second forty-yard dash time, but Clemson holds a slight edge.

"Clemson is my leader," remarked Washington. "They were the first team that was interested in me, and they said I have a chance to play now. I can come on as a freshman and start."

If South Carolina expects to gain any ground, the Gamecocks' coaching staff needs to act quickly as Washington plans to make a final decision relatively soon.

"I'm going to go to a few football camps and see if I get any more offers," stated Washington. "I plan on committing in August."

Although not set in stone, Washington's summer camping schedule is set to include trips to Columbia and Clemson.

One of Washington's best friends, Courtney Vincent, signed with the Tigers last season and is providing a definative edge for Clemson. Gamecock coaches will chose their battles carefully this season.
