Gamecocks Definitely In The Hunt

Evidently someone missed the boat when making claims that this highly touted South Carolinian was not interested in the Gamecocks. Jamie Newberg of Countdown To Signing Day clears that misconception up quite a bit with this information ...

The recruiting coordinators for both Clemson and South Carolina stopped by North Augusta (S.C.) High School on Wednesday to check on FS/WR C.J. Byrd.

Clemson was represented by Ron West, while the Gamecocks had Rick Stockstill on the scene. The two came at different times during the day and met with North Augusta coach Joe Long about the player nicknamed "Big Byrd."

"Both Clemson and South Carolina want to put a big fence around the border of the state and battle it out against each other for C.J.," Long said. "C.J. and his family are definitely very interested in both in-state powers, but they are also going to check out any and all options."

West and Stockstill each said they would return to North Augusta for spring practice, which will be held May 10-24. Assistants from Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina and Auburn, among others, have visited the school within the last few days, and Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer is scheduled to be in town on Thursday. Big Byrd is considered one of the nation's top college prospects for next year and already has 28 offers.
