Ahmad Mayo Profile
Ahmad Mayo is a name most recruiting fans do not recognize right now. Mayo is a 5'9, 212 lb fullback for Griffin High School that is playing his first season of Varsity Football, and he has already picked up two offers, and he names a leader.
Ahmad Mayo transferred into Griffin from Tift County, and he was not allowed to play any sports on the Varsity level his first year. Last year as an eleventh grader Mayo had to play and dominate on the Junior Varsity Level. With all that behind him, he has completed his first Spring with the Varsity, and he and has come out with two early scholarship offers.
"I've gotten offers from Auburn and South Carolina," said Mayo. "I'm also being recruited by teams like Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, and Indiana, and Florida."
"While playing Junior Varsity last year I found out I had a slight tear in my meniscus" says Mayo. "I played through it and had surgery to repair it this past January". Mayo now, not quite fully recovered in running between a 4.6 and 4.7 forty. "One of my goals for the summer is to work on my speed and get back close to the 4.5 range".
Working to get back to 100% will not be a problem for the bruising fullback.
"Nobody works harder than me. I find myself becoming a big time leader this year. Both vocally and by example. My strengths are work ethic, patience as a runner, vision, keeping my feet moving after contact and just pure strength".
Mayo is now benching 335 lbs, squatting 495 lbs and he power cleans 320 lbs. "The weakest thing in my game right now is my speed, but I am working on that".
Other than working on his speed this summer, Mayo says he is thinking about attending a few camps.
"Auburn is really pushing me to attend their camp. I am thinking about a few others too".
One school that Mayo grew up following is Tennessee. He is good friends with current Tennessee Volunteer Derrick Tinsley.
"If they offered it would be a dream come true. I have been to Neyland Stadium, and it is a dream of mine to play there".
With that said Mayo says he is open to recruitment right now. "I am looking for atmosphere, tradition and a good education when I decide where I go to school".
Look for Mayo's name to start appearing a lot more in the future months as his name has just begun to surface.
