Gastonia NC Speedster Garnering Major Attention

700 yards rushing and a couple hundred more receiving as a little known junior. But this year he gets the chance to be the centerpiece an his 4.4 speed is forcing teams to take notice. Is he a tailback or a cornerback? He gives you a hint in his comments ...

2005 Prospect: Thomas Cathcart

Thomas Cathcart (5'11, 160lb. 4.4) of Hunter Huss HS (Gastonia, NC) is softly making a name for himself as the 2005 recruiting process kicks up into high gear.

Cathcart's stats for this past season show why he is receiving letters daily from some of the best colleges in the south.

"I had 700 yards rushing, 13 touchdowns, 200 receiving yards, 5 touchdowns. But I feel that in order to complete my game, for the next level, I need to improve my defensive skills. That way I'll be a better all around player."

Obviously Cathcart understands that he is going to be recruited as a defensive back this season.

"I've received letters from NC State, UNC, Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, South Carolina, and Clemson," replied Thomas when asked what schools are showing early interest.

Cathcart has stated that he would like to have his decision made before the season starts. "I want to decide where I'm going so that I can concentrate on my senior year. My coach has set a personal goal of 1500 yards rushing for me and I don't want to let him down."

So what about camps or visits?

"I have scheduled camps at North Carolina and NC State. Unfortunately when it came to Junior days, I wasn't able to attend any."

Thomas currently has a 3.0 GPA, and recently scored a 1000 on his SAT. Cathcart would like to study in the field of engineering.
