Quarterback Has Potental - Is One To Watch!

For a team looking for a leader, someone who can read defenses, the Gamecocks may have found the holy grail in this prospect. As a matter of fact he may be a bit of a control freak "I like having all the decisions come through me. I play point guard for the basketball team and catcher on the baseball team. I like having control over what happens on the field," ...

2005 Prospect Ryan Stell

Ryan Stell of Western Guilford (Greensboro, N.C.) is sure to be one of the top quarterbacks in the Old North State for the 2005 season. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound, (4.8 40) quarterback threw for 2,965 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior in leading the Hornets to the third round of the state playoffs.

As a junior, Stell was nominated for several honors including all-State, All-Conference, and he was selected as the Offensive MVP for his team.

South Carolina, Alabama, Nebraska, Maryland, William and Mary, Wake Forest, The Citadel and Yale are showing Stell strong interest. The Gamecocks along with Alabama and William & Mary fill out Ryan's top 3.

When asked what makes each of those schools appealing, Ryan answered in a single word, "Tradition." Ryan went on the explain what he meant by tradition. "South Carolina's tradition is new, they are not yet a national power but they are trying to get there, they are just now getting known for their football and they are in the SEC. William and Mary is old school tradition, they throw the ball a lot. Alabama is Alabama. Their tradition is football."

Stell has his sights set on a school with a good football program that has a good school environment. Even though Ryan hasn't received any offers to date, he expects several soon and knows he would like to make his choice when the time is right.

"I don't want to rush into anything and get into something that I won't like. With that said, it will be after the season is over before I decide"

Ryan may be called a control freak "I like having all the decisions come through me. I play point guard for the basketball team and catcher on the baseball team. I like having control over what happens on the field," stated Stell. "I'm working on getting bigger, stronger, and faster. I'm working on having a quicker release and I'm trying to work on my footwork."

Why is he so interested in the Gamecocks and what other schools has his interest peaked?

"I made it to the South Carolina spring game and was able to get to look at the school and meet all the people down there. Nebraska sent me a invitation, but it showed up a day after the game."

USC likes him and they seem to have an edge here. Watch for Stell's recruitment to heat up soon.
